Summary of role
The Secondary PDHPE Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning programs in Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) across Years 7 – 12, in alignment with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabus requirements.
The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, student-centred educator who promotes lifelong physical activity, wellbeing, resilience and positive health choices. They will actively contribute to the co-curricular life of the school and demonstrate a strong commitment to pastoral care and the broader mission of an independent school community.
Position Objective
The Secondary PDHPE Teacher is responsible for delivering a dynamic and engaging Personal Development, Health and Physical Education program that promotes students’ physical competence, health literacy, resilience and overall wellbeing. The role aims to foster a positive attitude towards lifelong physical activity and informed health choices, while supporting students’ academic growth and personal development. As a member of an independent school community in Grafton, the teacher contributes to a culture of excellence, care and high expectations, supporting the holistic development of each student through quality teaching, pastoral care and active involvement in the co-curricular life of the school.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Plan, prepare and deliver engaging PDHPE programs in accordance with NESA syllabi.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, physical and social needs of students.
- Use data to inform practice and provide timely, constructive feedback to students.
- Create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Integrate contemporary health issues and evidence-based wellbeing practices into programs.
- Maintain accurate records of assessment, attendance and reporting.
Sport & Co-curricular Involvement
- Contribute to the school’s sporting program, including coaching and supervision.
- Assist with carnivals, representative pathways and inter-school competitions.
- Support outdoor education, camps and other experiential learning programs where required.
Student Wellbeing & Pastoral Care
- Model and promote positive health behaviours and respectful relationships.
- Actively support student wellbeing initiatives and whole-school wellbeing programs.
- Build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accreditation with NESA and actively engage in professional development.
- Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum planning and faculty initiatives.
- Contribute to staff meetings, school events and professional learning days.
- Uphold child protection and workplace health and safety requirements.
Selection Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate:
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications and NESA accreditation to teach PDHPE in NSW.
- A strong understanding of the NSW PDHPE syllabus (Years 7 – 12).
- Experience teaching Stage 4 – 6 PDHPE (including Stage 6 experience desirable).
- The ability to motivate and engage students of varying abilities.
- Strong organisational, communication and classroom management skills.
- Willingness to contribute to sport, co-curricular activities and the wider school community.
- A commitment to the ethos and values of an independent school.
