Education Assistant - Special Needs

We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs – Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

Our Special Needs Education Assistants at Mount Lawley PS play an important role in supporting the learning, engagement, and wellbeing of our students with diverse educational needs. As part of a collaborative and inclusive school community, the suitable applicants would work closely with teachers and specialist staff to support the implementation of personalised learning programs that respond to the strengths, interests, and needs of individual students. Through encouragement, guidance, and consistent support, you would help students build confidence, develop independence, and engage meaningfully in their learning.

Working under the general supervision and guidance of the classroom teacher, you would assist in delivering planned and differentiated learning experiences across the curriculum, including the use of digital technologies. This may involve supporting individual students, facilitating small group programs, or implementing targeted learning activities that help students work towards their individual goals and reach their full potential. You will work within clearly defined plans while also having the capacity to use initiative and sound judgement to respond to student needs and support positive engagement.

In this role, you would support the implementation of individual education plans and targeted intervention programs, including those developed in collaboration with allied health professionals such as occupational therapists, speech pathologists, or physiotherapists. You would assist students to access learning by using appropriate communication strategies and tools, while also contributing to the broader learning team through sharing observations, providing feedback on student progress, and supporting ongoing planning and refinement of learning programs. You would also play a key role in supporting our teachers with maintaining a well-organised and supportive learning environment by preparing resources, assisting with classroom organisation, and supporting safe and hygienic practices where required.
