Position Details

Teacher Assistant


Mater Dei College has the opportunity for a full-time, ongoing Teacher Assistant to become an integral part of the College’s Learning Support Department, preferably joining us in Term 1, 2026.   

We are seeking a vibrant, passionate, friendly, and confident individual who is committed to creating a welcoming and positive learning environment for students who need extra assistance.

The Teacher Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are inclusive of, but not limited to:  
• Assisting with the implementation, development and delivery of teaching programs and lesson plans.
• Providing individualised help to students requiring assistance to deliver high-quality student-focused learning, particularly to students with Autism and ADHD.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date databases relevant to the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD).
• Coordinating therapy timetables and schedules by liaising with external therapists, staff and students to ensure minimal disruption to learning programs.
• Communicate relevant updates regarding changes in student needs to teaching staff and Heads of Year, under the guidance and direction of the Head of Learning Support.
• Monitoring students during various activities outside of the classroom including recess, lunch, sports, camps and excursions to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
• Supporting the teacher with the implementation of Individualised Education Plans, Curriculum Adjustment Plans and Behaviour Management Plans.

Selection Criteria

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a high level of professionalism whilst supporting the Catholic ethos and values of the College.

A high level of organisational and time management skills are also required for the role, along with strong administrative skills.

The successful applicant will also demonstrate the ability to practice patience towards students who may need extra time or assistance, along with the ability to demonstrate empathy and flexibility amongst various situations.

Demonstrated experience working with kids with Autism and ADHD will be viewed favourably.

Qualifications Required

Terms of Employment:
•  Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWC) 
•  Hold a current National Police Clearance from the Department of Education
•  Annually complete the online Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training
•  Hold or be working towards an Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School  

Highly Desirable:
•  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
•  Excellent organisational and time management skills  
•  Proven ability to work well independently as well as in a group 
•  Proven ability to be flexible and confident in different situations and to provide assistance across a variety of tasks 
•  Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office
