Position Details
Our Lady of Mercy Primary School is a Kindergarten to Year 6, double stream, co-educational Catholic school in Girrawheen. We seek a dedicated, passionate and committed V-EALD teacher with strong pedagogical knowledge and experience supporting EAL/D learners. The successful applicant will foster a culture where every student is recognised as capable of learning, with engagement promoted through quality teaching. They will be positive, enthusiastic and collaborative.

The Virtual English as an Additional Language or Dialect (V-EALD) Support Program responds to the need for effective EAL/D support in CEWA schools. Its purpose is to develop students’ foundational Standard Australian English (SAE) to enable access to core learning areas. Students with higher needs may access up to four sessions per week.

The V-EALD teacher will design specialist programs tailored to student needs and deliver short-term intervention virtually via Teams. Responsibilities include planning, monitoring, assessing and reporting using EAL/D Progress Maps, and supporting classroom teachers with EAL/D pedagogy.

The role includes 0.08FTE within the CEWA V-EALD team, supported by EAL/D consultants, and 0.2FTE at Our Lady of Mercy. The teacher will work with small groups, support individual EAL/D Plans, lead professional learning, advise on resources, and collaborate with the school’s EALD Coordinator to monitor student progress.

Role Description
The successful applicant will deliver daily virtual lessons and:
•    Have experience teaching EAL/D students in mainstream, IEC or intervention settings. 
•    Demonstrate inclusive, culturally responsive practice and understanding of migrant experiences. 
•    Show knowledge of second language acquisition, EAL/D Progress Maps and the WA Curriculum. 
•    Lead, coach and mentor staff to support academic and social/emotional needs. 
•    Hold or be willing to undertake relevant qualifications (e.g. TESOL, Applied Linguistics). 
•    Demonstrate or develop skills in delivering engaging virtual programs. 
•    Hold TRBWA registration.

Selection Criteria
•    Plan and deliver daily virtual lessons. 
•    Support schools to complete EAL/D Interviews. 
•    Assess students using Progress Maps. 
•    Coordinate and implement programs based on student needs. 
•    Develop EAL/D resources and support whole-school practice. 
•    Monitor and report student progress. 
•    Liaise with schools to support EAL/D Learning Plans. 
•    Assist accurate reporting across learning areas. 
•    Manage student exit processes and reporting. 
•    Liaise with CEWA consultants and maintain data.

Qualifications Required
•    Four-year trained teacher.
•    Current WWC and TRBWA registration.
•    Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic school or willingness to obtain.
•    Additional EAL/D qualifications desirable.
