An exciting opportunity exists for a highly skilled Business Manager to work at Wacol Youth Remand Education Support Hub.

The hub is an interim facility operating as a campus of the Queensland Education and Training Centre (QETC) under the supervision of the Executive Principal.

It is expected to operate as an interim facility until mid-2027, with the possibility of extension, and as such the position will remain temporary.

To support consistent student engagement and address learning gaps, funding has been approved to enable education delivery across 48 weeks of the year.

Who We Are:

QETC is a multi-campus, Department of Education school operating within South-East Queensland's Youth Detention Centres at Wacol.

QETC is a school that caters to male and female students from across the state who are either on remand or have been sentenced for criminal offences.

The school plays an important role in the community by providing young people in detention with the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, and values that can enhance their capacity to pursue positive choices in the future.

Wacol Youth Remand Education Support Hub operates under a separate operational model, which has be collaboratively developed in consultation with our key partner, Youth Justice.

The remand centre can facilitate up to 76 students across a 48-week year delivery model.

Responsibilities include:

  • Operate autonomously to undertake day to day office procedures within well-defined policies (e.g. reception, arranging appointments, correspondence, maintaining school records and general administration); and utilise information and management systems (e.g. OneSchool) to support effective and efficient reporting and administration.
  • Undertake the day-to-day supervision and management of school support staff, including monitoring workloads and performance (working in collaboration with the Principal or Head of Campus for any difficult performance management situations); identifying workforce capability requirements; and role modelling performance standards.
  • Oversee the signatories/approval of timesheets, leave applications and rosters of school staff; and organise, undertake and coordinate the recruitment, induction and training of school staff in collaboration with the Head of Campus.
  • Assist the Head of Campus with the preparation of the school budget and administer day to day financial matters (i.e. accounts payable/receivable, corporate card monitoring, reconciliations, banking). Input and export data to/from OneSchool for the Head of Campus, to assist with budgeting and financial management.
  • Facilities and Asset Management: Coordinating maintenance of buildings, managing assets, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
